The Central Bureau of Investigation of the Polish Police organised, in the framework of the Pericles Programme, the “Euro North East III. Meeting of European Counterfeiting Experts”.
The conference was hosted in Warsaw (Poland) from 23 to 27 April 2012 and implemented a priority of Pericles strategy: the regional platform of cooperation among experts in North Eastern Europe. The event was co-financed by the Pericles Programme.
Euro North East III brought together 70 participants from customs, law enforcement, central banks and border offices of Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Lithuania and Latvia. Representatives of OLAF (Unit D5), ECB, Europol, Eurojust and Interpol SG also attended.
The event was a success. The following main conclusions were reached:
To promote the use of the Pericles programme managed by OLAF in order to improve the regional network of cooperation among experts in North Eastern Europe;
To raise awareness on the protection of the euro in Eastern European countries;
To support the creation of National Central Offices where missing and strengthen cooperation among already existing ones in order to improve the fight against euro counterfeiting in the North East of Europe;
To increase exchange of information and promote cooperation among relevant institutions (in particular police, customs, border guards, central banks) by supporting the multidisciplinary approach necessary for an effective fight against euro counterfeiting;
To promote the use of Europol’s products (analytical and financial support);
To increase the judicial cooperation through Eurojust, particularly using Joint Investigation Teams.
