This handbook aims to promote understanding and effective implementation of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (OPSC). The handbook describes the starting point, scope and content of the Protocol, and provides examples of measures taken by States Parties to fulfil their obligations under this instrument. The handbook is addressed mainly to public officials and others who work with and for children, and whose activities can help to enhance the protection of children from exploitation, on both national and local level. It also provides recommendations for governments, the private sector and local communities. The content is based largely on the experience of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the treaty monitoring body established by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) to review progress made by States Parties on implementing the CRC and its Optional Protocols.
