Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament and the Council - An area of freedom, security and justice serving the citizen
The Communication provides a special section on human trafficking. It focuses on prevention, by stepping up a closer coordination between authorities, services, networks and relevant agencies. It stresses that a better cooperation with the authorities in the countries of origin is needed to prevent the fraudulent issue of visas. Information campaigns should be aimed ad potential victims. A more effective border checks should be implemented. Adequate human and financial resources should be provided to step up controls at the workplace. Condition for issuing residence permits to victims should be simplified.
