  • Does Legalized Prostitution Increase Human Trafficking?

Cho, Seo-Young, Dreher, Axel and Neumayer, Eric, Does, January 16, 2012, 48 pages

This paper investigates the impact of legalized prostitution on human trafficking inflows, based on an empirical analysis for up to 150 countries.

Discussing what economic theory suggests regarding the effect of the legalization of prostitution on trafficking, this paper shows that, on average, countries where prostitution is legal experience larger reported human trafficking inflows.
