  • Evaluation and monitoring of the EU Plan on combating and preventing trafficking in human beings

    Commission working document (17/10/2008 - COM/2008/657 final), 12 pages

This report provides an evaluation of the implementation of anti-trafficking policy in the EU. The main findings include that the number of criminal proceedings and victims assisted were not high enough compared to the estimated scale and the gravity of the crime. The protection of and assistance to victims also needs significant improvement. The Commission is proposing a number of actions including the establishment of National Rapporteurs or equivalent mechanisms; the creation or improvement of national mechanisms for identification of and referral to victim support services; and improvement of coordination of investigations and prosecutions. The outcomes of these efforts will be used as the basis for a new post-2009 strategy for combating and preventing trafficking in human beings.
