In Luxembourg, the Leader+ initiative is implemented through a single national programme which was approved by the European Commission on 20 December 2001. The LAGs have been selected by a jury, composed of representatives of different ministries with an interest in rural development, and this provided the basis for the ministerial decision.
Projects are selected by the LAGs and afterwards are checked and authorized by competent Ministries as well as the minister responsible for rural development.
There is also a ‘Leader type’ national initiative financed only with national and local funding. One LAG (Aïschdall) is financed in this way.
PRINCIPAL INSTITUTIONS INVOLVED
- Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural development (Ministère de l’Agriculture, de la Viticulture et du Développement rural) is responsible for the implementation, management, and financial aspects, as well as for monitoring the programme. Thus, it plays the role of managing and paying authority.
- The function of the national network unit is fulfilled by a non-governmental organization by the name of: ‘Stad a Land’ (Town and Country-side).
