EU-FADN - 50 years of providing essential information for the CAP
2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN).
Right after the Common Agricultural Policy was established, the FADN was created to provide «available objective and relevant information on incomes and on the business operation of holdings» (Council Regulation 79/65/EEC of 15 June 1965), deemed necessary for the development of the policy.
These main goals have been stable over the last 50 years but FADN obviously evolves along with the policy priorities to meet new demands: new variables have been recently added on the use of fertilisers to be able to monitor environmental issues; the information collected on subsidies has been updated to reflect the reform of the CAP, etc.
