Canada and the EU recognised each other's organic production rules and control systems as equivalent under their respective rules in June 2011.

Recognition of the European Union by Canada
By letter dated 21 June 2011, Canada has recognised the EU for the purpose of equivalence. For information about the scope of recognition of the EU by Canada and export of organic products from the EU to Canada, please consult the competent authority's website: Canadian Food Inspection agency.
Regulation (EU) No 2016/459 has extended the scope of Canada recognition to processed products with imported ingredients and to organic wine. This Regulation has entered into force on 7 April 2016.
