The Advisory Group on Organic Farming is another organisation which supports Commission decision making in this area.
It comprises representatives of technical and business interest groups including
- IFOAM, the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements
- BEUC, the European Consumers' Organisation
- COPA/COCEGA, the Committee of Professional Agricultural Organisations/General Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives in the European Union
- COFALEC, representing the EU yeast industry).
This cooperation enables experience and views to be shared, so that organic farming policy can be developed further.
The Commission is free to consult the Advisory Group at any time. Commission presidents can submit their proposals and ask for the Group to be consulted on issues within their area of expertise.
Advisory Group decisions are not binding on the Commission. However, they are taken into account, and members are informed of all action resulting from their decisions.
