This chapter deals with the pre-accession process which lead to the accession of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, the Slovak Republic, and Slovenia (1st May 2004) and of Bulgaria and Romania (1st January 2007). It is no longer updated, but the existing content can still be consulted.
