The objective of the conference is to provide a comprehensive
overview of the enlargement process. In particular, it will:
- describe the negotiations and challenges in the area of
agriculture and rural development,
- cover the perspectives of agricultural markets in
an enlarged EU,
- describe financial assistance (in
particular IPARD) addressed to Turkey and the Western
Balkans,
- refer to the experiences gained from the past
enlargement round.
The conference will:
- provide updated information and guidance to stakeholders,
- raise the awareness about agriculture
and enlargement and
- provide a platform for dialogue between the Commission and
future counterparts.
The conference will bring
together leading representatives from the following sectors:
- agricultural NGO's,
- co-operatives,
- industries,
- consumer groups,
- environmental groups,
- universities and media,
- government representatives.
The conference will build upon positive experiences from
past events organised by the Commission's Directorate-General
for Agriculture and Rural Development (2002 Riga and Prague;
2004 Sofia).
Targeted countries will be
candidate countries, potential
candidate countries and Kosovo (under UNSCR 1244).
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development
Mariann Fischer Boel will open this event jointly with the
Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.
The languages of the conference will be English and Croatian.
Participation to the conference is on invitation only.
