The conference was co-organised by four European Commission Directorates-General which together manage a very significant part of the EU budget: Agriculture and Rural Development, Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and Regional Policy.
"Telling the story" brought together, for the first time, communication officers responsible for the EU's five Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF). In addition to communication officers from national and regional authorities, participants included journalists, representatives of stakeholder organisations, European networks, managing authorities etc.
The event focused on how to better tell the story of Europe, through its achievements on the ground via the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, as well as through the other European Structural and Investment Funds.

In addition, the Awards ceremony for the 2013 edition of the CAP Communication Awards took place during the conference, recognising best-practice examples in the field of communication on agriculture and rural development in the categories 'Communication to stakeholders', 'Communication to the public' and 'Innovative communication'.
