EUROPEAN COMMISSION AT THE NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN PLOUGHING
CHAMPIONSHIPS – Athy- County Kildare, Ireland
The Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development
of the European Commission will be present at the Irish National
and European Ploughing Championships from 21 to 23 September in
Athy, Co Kildare..
This event also hosts the biggest trade fair for agricultural
machinery in Ireland, with livestock exhibitions, a tented trade
village and several other specialist trade areas.
Visitors to the Commission's stand will be provided with
information on its agricultural and rural development policy.
Experts will be available to answer questions from farmers and
the public alike. There will also be games, quizzes and
activities for visitors, both adults and children, to test their
knowledge of agriculture and the EU in general and win a prize!
Particular focus will be given at the fair to bio-energy, EU
co-financing under the rural development programmeand conversion
to organic farming. Beneficiaries of EU co-financing will make
brief presentations to explain their products, how they obtained
the EU funding and results achieved, with some tastings of their
products, which could include prepared meats, dairy products and
black puddings. These events will take place on:
Tuesday 21/09/2010 at 15:00: presentations on Bioenergy and
22/09/2010 at 15:00: presentations on meat , dairy products
and new retailing models
Thursday 23/09/2010 at 11h00 : round-table discussion on
organic farming in Ireland with 3 EU co-financing
beneficiaries under the rural development programme
demonstrating their wares
National Ploughing Association
