Public debate on the CAP post-2013
On 12 April 2010 Dacian Cioloş, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, invited all interested EU citizens and organisations - whether or not they work in the area of agriculture - to join the debate on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy, its principles and objectives. The debate centered around four main themes:
- Why do we need a common agricultural policy?
- What do citizens expect from agriculture?
- Why reform the CAP?
- What tools do we need for the CAP of tomorrow?
This on-line debate stayed open till 11 June 2010.
More than 5500 contributions from the general public, stakeholder organisations as well as think-tanks arrived in our mailboxes. They have been brought together in a single synthesis report which was presented and discussed at a conference held on 19-20 July in Brussels.
