The European Commission has approved the addition of a new quality farm product, the Spanish Protected Denomination of Origin ' Aceituna de Mallorca ', (also 'Aceituna Mallorquina', 'Oliva de Mallorca', 'Oliva Mallorquina') to the register of protected designations of origin (PDOs) and protected geographical indications (PGIs). The name 'Aceituna de Mallorca' refers to green, bruised green and natural black table olives of an indigenous variety produced and hand harvested in the island of Majorca. The olives are partially fermented in brine. Bruised green olives are flavoured with fennel and chilli pepper from the island, while black ones are flavoured with Majorcan oil ('Aceite de Mallorca'). The denominations will be added to the list of more than 1,200 products already protected. More information: webpages on quality products and DOOR database of protected products.
